For those people living with their partners, do you have a joint bank account?, if so, after how long of living together did you sort out a joint bank account?

We have seperate at moment but he gives me half of all bills in one lump sum every month. But we both get paid the same. But say if I wanted a baby (no not yet redcrx) and I was getting alot less through work surely he should help me out more and might be better just to have joint bank account and take all money out the one. But then wouldnt be sure what money would be mine to spend, if I want some retail therapy and what would be his
I mentioned i when we were sorting through his statements other da, he had 3 accounts he didnt even know about so all needs sorting, and he said we'd sort it when we are both off at christmas, but I dont want him to feel that he cant have his money when he wants or that I am after any of it. At the moment he gives me half bills but I seem to pay for all the shopping, but he pays for petrol, would just make more sense if it all came out one
We've never had much money to worry about it (still don't now lol) but we were only together a couple of months before we got a joint bank account.
Everything goes into that account and everything comes out of it for bills etc. We have a savings account which is in my name but it's our account and if I transfer money into joint account I always say before doing it, not that it matters.
We're usually together when buying most things and always tell the other one if we are drawing money out for something. Big purchases are never bought without discussing it with the other. Works for us anyway, we don't see the need for seperate bank accounts.

If it's a partnership and you are at home looking after the babies that's your job, so to me it doesn't matter if he's earning more you share and you can change it then. If you want to do it now and are comfortable with that just do it 4get. Nothing wrong with that at all. Thinking about it I was always a signatory on the old mans cheque book anyway.
If you dont mind me asking, how long have you been together?

I've been married many years but we've always had seperate bank accounts, we have a household account that everything is paid from bills, food, car stuff. we both have a standing order to take from our accounts for this. clothes come from our own accounts, holidays we split down the middle.
seems to work for us.
