hi all,

im in real pain tonight with tooth ache - back bottom teeth.

i took a 400mg ibrufen tablet about an hour and a half ago, but its not touched it.
can i take another, or do i have to wait 4 hours?

and is a single dose of 2 400mg tabs at one time too much?

im using extra strong oragel and have got a covered hot water bottle resting on my face to try and ease the pain which is now in the side of my face and up into my ear area... :o(

Oh bless you.I can't advise about dosage of painkillers but I do sympathise with you.Can you get to A&E where I am sure they will be able to help??
Also I always found Paracetamol more effective on toothache

ohhh its orrible isnt it tasty.. not nice..

i will see how i am tomorrow with it and will nip down if its no easier.

ive just brushed my teeth again and had a mouth wash, will try anything!
just a note that my dentist told me when I did the same thing- that hot water bottles make it worse because it increases the blood flow and make it throb more- try the ibuprofen lyseine tablets for migraines I found they work the best:)

Ibuprofen dosage - adult- 200mg-400mg every 4 - 6 hours, maximum 1200 mg per 24 hours.

really nox? well as it happens yeah i can feel it throbbing with the hot water bottle on it ... i will warm me feet instead with it then lol

thanks, i will look for those tablets tomorrow if its no better.
Ooooh I sympathise! I had something very similar last year and one night when I was out in Scotland it was unbearable. I doubt any doctor would ever recommend this but... I ran to the chemist, brought ibru and paracetimal, took 2 of each at the same time and continued to drink the other half of the bottle of wine I was sharing with my friend! Like I said, probably terrible advice but it did work :-/ (I then went to the dentist when I got back!)

Perhaps get some cloves instead, they're supposed to help aren't they?

thanks mamyalynne, happy birthday by the way :o) i hope youve had a lovely day :o)

ahh good thinking redhelen, ive just found some rinstead pastilles in my drawer, will they do as thats all ive got at the min, the have menthol bp in them, so they might help?
Question Author
lol @ china - you had a right cocktail that night didnt you! ;o) lol
If you have some brandy swill some round your mouth cos I found that it can help and lets face it anything is worth trying to get away from the pain
Tooth aches the pits!

If I ever have kids, I'll be one of those women screaming for every drug under the sun before my waters even broken... ;0)
I have two kids and would give birth to a dozen more rather than have to suffer toothache
oli of cloves, is old fashioned, not sure if available maybe in late night chemist or supermarket.
If you have got paracetamol, I am not suggesting or advising this but before now I have taken paracetamol alternating with ibuprofen. Be VERY VERY CAREFUL NOT TO EXCEED THE MAXIMUM SAFE DOSE OF EITHER.
Question Author
i think ive got some of that somewhere.....

its eased off a little bit now, thank goodness - but roll on half 10 when i can take my next painkillers.
Yes rest a rinstead against the area, it may help and get it seen to as soon as possible.

Thank you for my birthday wish, lovely day. ♥

thanks woofgang, it seems to have eased a bit this last half hour.

glad youve had a lovely day mamyalynne
mamy, did you put the cot sides up ? did you use the commode before posting tonight?
looby you have my sympathies too as I had this with a wisdom tooth last year and at its worse I was trying to pull the basin off the bathroom wall as I was groaning against the pain. I found Paramol was the strongest over the counter help. Clove Oil too, might be old-fashioned but is available in all chemists and does help numb it. I also found rubbing with a toothbrush helped and also any 'warm' kind of alcohol like brandy, baileys, rum etc! Hope it gets better soon.
