Don't worry, half the time it tries to change mine to American crap....

don't you just love this woman<craft>
she is great...enuff...OK?
On the contrary, mine reminds me how literate I really am and how truly thick it is. Mine, for instance, does not like the word 'carers', trying to offer me 'careers' instead. And when I type in something like 'one of our key strategies is to xyz' it offers 'one of our key strategies *are* xyz'. I mean, thick or what?

well I am glad I am not completely alone, though the Americanisms do 'do my head in' sometimes.Still feel a bit thick, though at least it makes me think a bit more when I am using the old pen and paper.
If your spell checker is offering you Americanisms as viable alternatively you are either using the wrong spell checker or you have not configured it correctly.

I'm slightly dyslexic and use Google Chrome as my browser. It has a built-in spell checker which understands the locale of the operating system of the machine that it's running on, and configures itself appropriately. So, 'colour' is fine but 'color' has a red line underneath it as I type.

It is by far the best I've ever used...
if you type something that it says is wrong try right clicking and going united kingdom is not there click to install languages :)

I probably have the configuration wrong cos my @ is not where it says it should be,but when I changed it,I kept getting the key wrong and it drove me demented!
I use Opera as my browser,I love the mouse gestures.
Creature of habit,thats me!
but I will keep Google in mind.

Aha - in that case, you have your computer set up incorrectly, which is why your browser is not working the way you want it to.

What operating system are you using...?

Windows 7 pro
Assuming that you do actually have a UK keyboard attached to your computer:

1) Open up Control Panel and then click Region and Language.

2) Make sure that everything is set to English (United Kingdon) or just United Kingdom.

You may have to reboot...
