My son mentioned this to me this morning and I didn't believe him...lol
It was sunny in northern ireland this morning but its clouded over and the hill I can see from my house looks like it has fog on it...possibly volcanic ash...not sure what it looks like lol!
Too high up in the atmosphere to trouble us here at ground level.........it's the jet-engines that will struggle at high altitude with the ash.

depends how long it goes on, but it seems the volcano is still coming up with eruptions so there could well be more. Krakatoa lowered global temperatures for years. This is much smaller but also much closer.

I'm not clear if it's actually got here yet or if the airlines are just thinking a few hours ahead (which would be sensible).

ah, right, vibra, so you've got it already.

Have you considered painting your rooms and getting some nice vases and things? When they excavated Pompeii they were impressed with the murals and home furnishings they discovered, and I wouldn't want them jeering at your rubbish paint jobs in centuries to come.
Bet it clouds over soon rehelen, I'm in Larne!
looks like you'll be photographing in black and white for a while, CAJ?
Would I have time to throw a coat of whitewash over the murals in my room? They're a bit like the ones in Pompeii and I wouldn't want history to judge me on them alone.
The ash is spread by winds - depending on the direction and speeds it will affect the nearest countries first but it will take quite a while to become noticeable. It might not be visible in the UK for days but it will first arrive in places like Shetland and the Hebrides. Only once it is reported there can the rest of the UK start gazing upward and expect to see anything, not before, and even at that it is not going to be very obvious on a cloudy day or in large cities where pollution is already considerable.
Keep watching the sky!

lol, black and white it will be jno! Did you see my post to say one of my photos have been shortlisted for a travel guide?!
Don't know about 'they'. But if I see clouds of ash descending and I know I've just a few minutes left I need to have pre-planned what I'm going to do with them.
Volcano ash..? I know I went out last night and watched strange 'lady boys', ate chilli chicken and woke up late... but have I missed something.. !!
We may be witnessing the beginning of the end of the world... Or, then again, maybe not....
See!
Not only have these darned Icelanders gobbled up all of our Council Taxes they're now sending ash from an unpronounceable volcano to wreck the airline businesses and keep us imprisoned on this island..........
