I have heard of this before, and doctors confirm that it can happen.  Obviously it isn't a proper period, but a bleed from somewhere that is leading the woman to believe that she isn't pregnant

krissy - I didn't see that particular programme, but have seen & read of other cases. One of my friends, had periods six months into her pregnancy & although her's was planned, I can see why some woman who do have periods throughout, don't realise they are pregnant.

Having said that, there's no way I could have carried our two daughters for nine months & not have known - they both kicked for West Ham!

It's rare, but it can happen. There was a story in our local paper a few years back.

A bride was on honeymoon and had terrible stomach ache. The hotel took her to hospital. She had a 7 lb baby boy.  The paper showed the wedding pictures, as well as pictures of the couple with the new baby. She had married in a UK size 10  corset style wedding dress. She had not seen a doctor because she didn't know she was pregnant, and said she had normal periods throughout the pregnancy.

I know a woman who went to the doctor with stomach aches etc and they decided to do a scan.  The nurse said "you do know there's a baby in there?"  She was 7 months pregnant and had no idea.  She wasn't showing and was having periods as normal.
It DOES happen. My Grandmother told me she gave birth to my mum when she beleived she was having a period. My mum was apparently 2 months premature and was born without any hair or eyelashes. My Grandad was in shock for a week and was told if my mum had not survived, he would have been charged with concealing a birth.
this happend to me i was having my "periods" as normal i was shopping in bluewater when i had really bad back pain i was in so much pain my mate called an ambulance it was the ambulance lady that informed me i was in labour.  it was a nice surpise i went out to get some clothes and come back with a baby!! i asked how could i still of had periods, etc the midwife informed me that my daughter was grown at the back of me hence y i didnt put on any weight etc.  she was perfect which to my surprise because i was going on all the rides at alton towers, going out to the pub and football. it still amazes me.
