I know that if something is wrong with you're appendix you get an excrutinating pain just above your right leg (but i think some people have theres on left). But i'm getting cramp in the corresponding place to where my dads operation scare is from when he had his out and he can't remember if his started out like cramp (it was 50 years ago) could it be that, if not what else, its too far right and the wrong time for normal womens cramp.

it now been hurting for three hours, on and off. Should i see a doctor in the next couple of days if its still sore.

I don't think iboprofen helped it.

If not should i mention it to my doctor when i go see her in cambridge about my shunt? i had an xray and the tubes all over the place so it could be that (i had random cramp in other places which she said might have been caused by the tube (at that point she didn't know where the tube was))
Question Author
If its stopped i mean, because if my memory serves me right, i think my tube goes somewhere near there. but it was hard to tell.
Just remind me...are you the lady with a VP shunt?

Is your "cramp" in the left side of your stomach, low down?

Very very unlikely to be appendicitis.

It could be so many other things, I suggest that you see your Gp.
Question Author
yes
no, right side, low down (same place that my dads scare from his op is)

It was alright when i first got up (half an hour ago) but its coming back i think. I think mum'll try and get an appointment.
Question Author
I can't remember exactly what the xray showed, but i remember asking the radiologist if it was going round in a loop around my live and he said that it was just below, on your right side.

but only a front/back xray so it was impossible to tell if it jsut twisted round or if it was almost constricting an organ.
molly you need a Doctor to put his hand on our "tummy". Get it seen to today. Still doesn't sound like appendicitis though.

i got an appointment for tommorow, you can only get an appointment the same day if its an emergency which i think this could have been, but it hasn't been hurting much today
molly..that is good, keep us informed.
heres a test...press into the sore area slowly an deeply with 2 fingers, then very quickly *** your fingers away...if its appendicitis, it is when you pull away fast that you feel the pain...the actual pressing down shouldnt hurt
For Funks Sake! the starred word is s n a t c h

how sad
joko....that is dangerous and misleading.

The test that you have described is called "Rebound Phenomenon"and is a test to confirm...PERITONITIS. an entirely different , advanced and life threatening condition.

This is the big danger of Body and Soul....dangerous and misleading advice.
that is not what the doctor told me when i had my appendix out...
joko...then either you have got it wrong or he has got it wrong.
I think there should be a medical advice section whereby only doctors are allowed to answer. Anyone that gave false and misleading advice would be detected rather quickly by other trained doctors. Instant ban would be the punishment!

i suggest asking a doctor online for medical matters .
alternatively call NHS Direct

their site address http://www.nhsdirect....at/InitialAssessment/
could be gall bladder stones these can cause pain , could also be hernia , but in all causes what ever it could be its better to know so go see a doctor asap .
im sure the online or phone links provided already will help and most probably suggest exactly the same , there is no substitute for seeing a doctor
There is S_C, it's called death :p

I'm fine but i should go back if it hurts again like that. even though its not my apendix, its not normal for it to hurt from2pm until i got to sleep somewhere between 10 and 11
s_c...I agree to get expert advice on-line....but hoe does one know that they have a medical qualification? Trust is the bottom line. All on-line medical forums gives advice......that is all advice, the poster making the final decision.

NHS Direct is a waste of time and money.........in my opinion......reasons:

NHS Direct cost £139,000 to set up, to take the pressure off GP surgeries and A and E depts..

Every call costs £25.

60% of calls referred to GP&A&E.

Service spent £225,000 translating materials into Loatian and Cherokee, which are hardly spoken.

The problem is in many cases, is that the patient is no better off, not understanding what the Dr has said and investigations not being explained. Surely this would indicate some need for an on-line medically based forum, for which I believe AB serves that purpose.
