Any truth in the old wives tale that if you sneezed with your eyes open they would fall out. And if they did would it result in such damage to the optic nerves as to render you blind?

No. It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, but if they were clamped open I am sure they wouldn't fall out.
The optic nerve is an extremely strong and complex muscle. No truth at all.
The pressure caused by sneezing would certainly push your eyes outwards, but its not likely that they would actually be forced right out. As advised, nature prevents you from sneezing with your eyes open, so it's not a problem you need to worry about.
Nice to see you about PaulB (sorry no pun intended Supernick)

Of course, it happens to me all the time.  Providing the optic nerves are still attached you just pop them back into their sockets.
