if a couple from the uk are engaged and live in the usa and get married, then the guy gets a green card through his job, the wife will then get one automatically i hear. if however, the couple get divorced, can the ex wife still remain in the usa? is there a period of time to be married before divorcing to keep the green card?
also if a uk woman has a baby in the usa, does this automatically give her residency because that child will have u.s citizenship?

Sounds like a hidden agenda here. The process to a green card is long. Hope the planned divorce is not immediate.
A couple from the UK cannot live in the USA to start with, so you are starting off from a false premise.

this is not anything bad. basically my fiance brought me here cos of his job, if we do get married then things go bad down the line, i dont want to have to go back to uk just cos of him, we already have a good life here. i dont see why i should give up my life here if its his fault that we split, so im basically wanting to know if its possible to stay here without him, suppose a green card would help. hopefully we will stay together but just looking out for me as we always should!
