Neck collar/brace

I've got two fractured vertebrae in my neck and have been wearing a neck collar/brace for the last 5 weeks. I've been told I can take it off BRIEFLY to wash my neck or shave. Because I'm wearing it near enough 24/7 it tends to smell a bit, though I do wash it in the shower. Any ideas how to keep the neck collar 'fresh'.

Thanks

Can you make a cover for it.  I did this with mine with a couple of mens cotton handkerchiefs.  I then could take them off and wash them.  Also the cotton kept my neck cool and free from heat rash.  It depends, of course, on the type of brace.

Dab a bit of rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball or cloth (not enough to saturate it), and wipe the inside of the neck collar with it.  This will clean off any skin oil or grease that accumulates, and will dry immediately.  Happy healing!

Could you ask the doctor or hospital for a spare one, so you can alternate between them....one to wear and one being washed ?
No advice, but I'm really sorry to hear about your misfortune. Just take good care of yourself and you'll be well soon.
Cheers!
I was given two collars when when I had a trapped nerve in my neck. Also, I was advised not to wear either of them in bed at night. (Your instructions may have differed to mine though).
P.S. Hope you feel better soon spainlads.
