I have had no sense from the hormone saturated bodies that go under the name of females in the Pregnancy Section of Family.

One poster called me a "tit"........LOL

What is a Baby shower? I honestly have never heard of the term.

it's an excuse for all your mates to come round and give you loads of expensive presents for the forthcoming Damian....
I'ts an american thing, where people bring presents for a new baby.Kinda like a hens party.

Thanks craft.....a sensible answer from a wonderful woman.

If they think that they can scare me off the Family channel, they have another think coming......LOL

So it is nothing to do with the baby, but all to do with the impending event.

Bl00dy stupid.
Well I suppose it's harmless fun if they like that kind of thing. Personally, I think it can turn into a bit of a competition as no-one wants to have brought the cheapest gift.................
I didn't have one for either of my two.
It's one of those American things, a bit like Halloween, that have weaned their way over the Atlantic.

Bit naff really.. just an excuse for the pregnant woman to get pressies and for her friends to get pi55ed.

I much preferred the "naughty knicker" party.

Can you just imagine a room full of fat women "with child" bedecked in those completely asexual maternity "garbs" giving presents to the "little darlings"
When I was pregnant I was so worried that things might go wrong I didn't buy anything except for some nappies and a few babygro's until after she was born.
Excuse me!!!! yank in the house......and I HAVE been listening.....lol

Actually-it dates from the 1930's and even back to victorian times if I am not mistaken. It was both a female social / bonding event..,and a chance to provide things that a young family may not have been able to do otherwise. Similar to a bridal shower.
it may seem naff. now...but it does have important cultural roots.

That's my rant over...
I didn't put the final stitches into the Christening gown until the morning of the Christening. I am with Craft on this one.... much too nervous to tempt fate.
Oh...and try explaining the burning of the 'guy' to Americans......VERY odd!!

Question Author
pasta....yeah! right......so why couldn't those "silly mares" over in Pregnancy explain that in the same civilised manner like "wot you did?"
cheers pasta......I think in the original context i.e. people chipping in to help out if there was not much money about is a good idea............but Tom Cruise's missus had one ffs....
Question Author
pasta....if you have to EXPLAIN Guy Fawkes to the Americans, then it is already too late.
Maybe they are Brits Sqad......and havent a clue of the origin......lol

I guess you just complimented me...lol.....think I will have a look in pregnancy
bit bad about Guy..........he was from York you know.....
But I would have to Sqad....they haven't a clue as to that aspect of british history....I know I didn't!!
Question Author
craft.....didn't know that...........was he a striker or a goalkeeper?
I think he was more of a plotter sqad..............he went to St Peter's school in York........they aren't allowed to burn his effigy on November 5th as it's considered bad manners to burn "old boys".................I jest not
Question Author
craft....quite interesting........mrs sqad ( the one with the black eye) tells me that his christian name was Gideon.

"No a lo a people know that"
well I didn't know that although he was sometimes known as Guido from when he fought with the Spanish....
