I have started cycling -I am only doing a couple of 3-4 undulating runs a day with no side effects (apart from the sore botty)
I am reasonably fit as i have no muscle ache.
How do I progress?
Do I maintain what i'm doing or as its obviously not a challenge physically how may miles would you recommend daily given that I cant move for hills so any route would present an incline (yikes) or a smalll rapid hill.
BTW -its not a chore I love it although it is for fitness reasons.
Any sage tips from seasoned cyclists would be appreciated (mountain bike)
O sorry 50 fit and female if that helps !!

Buy a gel seat for your sore bottom! They are miles better than the hard ones

Thanks both of you -I do find early evenings less frantic traffic wise so will continue with that and a gel seat -wow -that sounds brilliant !! It sure would beat the bath sponge I was gonna tape on lol.
Lol, a bath sponge would have been funny. I think both argos and halfords do the gel seats from 10-15

Cheers for that -will get one at the weekend !
If you are interested in getting fitter then buy yourself a heart rate monitor and use it to gauge your heart rate and the number of calories you are burning.
Definitely get yourself a woman's gel saddle... I knew a female cyclist who was always complaining of 'a split kipper' after a long bike ride :-)

Thats a brill idea -as thats what I am trying to achieve -weight loss through exercise and diet and also to get fitter and healthier.

Cheeky I know but any idea where you can buy those monitors?

oooo snags I can empathise with her -I walk like John Wayne(tta) when I get off my horse erm mean bike lol
Probably the best deal for a decent one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000UW5SYG/ ref=nosim/?tag=hotukdeals-21

Though you can get cheap ones from Lloyds pharmacies (around 15) - but really I would get a 'proper' one.

I spent 50 on mine 3 years ago and haven't regretted a penny.

It has helped me achieve a pretty good level of fitness and helped me lose 4 1/2 stone.

WOW -thats amazing -well done !!

Thanks for the link -much appreciated.
Oneeyedvic that is amazing, and it would be really interesting to hear exactly how you did it. ie diet? calorie counting, how often did you exercise? etc
