It is a well known fact that pregnant women sometimes get cravings for things other than food or drink etc. We have one lady who sees our midwife, who gets the urge to eat chalk. Chalk, along with coal (!) is a common non-food craving.

This is known as pica (biology lesson here...) and doesn't just occur in pregnancy. If you had to eat something that was non-food, non-nutritious - what would it be? I think I would opt to eat mud - so long as a cat or dog hadn't wee'd on it....

my son suffers from pica also.
I use to eat grass when I was little.
And egg shells....
When I was pregnant I would eat the sand that the termites leave on trees. Funnily enough my staffy likes to eat that as well. When I was little I would chew the stems of the donkey weed.

Brinjal - I could not have dreamt up your answer !!!!

When I was much younger, at my parents' house, I would sneak into the fridge and eat raw sausagemeat or raw potato. I would squidge the sausage meat out of its skin & eat it like that. It's a wonder I never got worms....
