At last i have got the go ahead for my surgery to take place after getting the results of my blood tests for thyroid function yesterday. Just have to wait for the hospital to send me a date now. Thanks for all your advise much appreciated.

Morning dinkydoo - I had my thyroid gland removed 3 years ago - it has taken a while to get the dosage of thyroxine right, but I feel so much better. I had years and years of suffering with an overactive thyroid, so at the age of 50 I went for the operation and was so glad I did.
