We planted 2 rows of Spinach in March and have been picking leaves here and there but stopped paying attention to it for a few weeks and now the plants are each 2 foot tall. Are they ruined? can I trim them? How close together should the main stems be?
I have a similar problem with my rocket, it grew really tall and now has small flowers on it, is it ruined?

Is the spinach real spinach, or leaf beet? If it's the former, then you need to plant some more, as it's probably done to seed.
As for the rocket then than definitely gone to seed. If you plant some more it should be ready to pick in 3wks or so.

what is "done to seed" ? does this mean that i can plant from the seeds of my original ones?
You need to let the seed ripen & dry out before you can plant it again, so you wont have enough time.
I plant my spinach & rocket in large pots at three week intervals so I have a continuous supply throughout the summer.
Spinach is notorious for bolting, so i keep mine in the shade by the kitchen door, & pick it when it's young & tender.
