Anemia - Reassurance needed please!

I went to the doctors last week and they think I have anemia. I am to go back for blood tests at the end of the week.

However, over the last few days I have noticed my symptoms have got a bit worse. Even walking up the stairs is leading to quite bad shortness of breath and makes my heart pound so much I can feel it in my chest and neck. My friend felt my neck and seemed shocked it was beating so hard. I know it is a symptom of anaemia but it is scaring me! When the doctor checked my BP it was perfect and when she listened to my heart she said it was fine. This only really happens on exertion although I feel like I can't breathe in and take a deep breath properly any of the time but I explained that to my GP.

Just wanting some reassurance that I'm ok and not about to keel over when I walk up stairs etc! Do you think I should wait to have my blood test or go back to docs sooner (i don't want to seem like some crazy panicked woman over this and my GP tell me thay can't do anything until after my blood test)!

TIA

caj1....take it easy...all symptoms of anaemia.

The end of the week is nigh and then you will be told the extent of you anaemia, the type, treatment and what further investiagions, if any, will be needed.

Relax.
I would go back to the doctors CAJ1 - if your blood test for anaemia is clear, get a full blood count (though I would imagine thats what you have already had done) and get your thyroid checked aswell.

Den...I would guess, that the blood tests WOULD include. Hb, FBC and thyroid function tests.

So I'm not about to have a heart attack sqad lol?! I'm just finding it really scary to feel your heart beating like that and not be able to breathe properly.

Den I'm due my blood test on Friday.

How long do you usually have to wait for the results?
caji.......usually about a week.

Now settle down.
awww CAJ1,

Sorry to read your having a bad time.

Whilst your waiting for t'blood results etc... go and buy some Black Strap Molasses and take a spoonful a day in water or just as.

It's full of iron and other goodies that may help until the doc knows whats going on.

Get well soon!!! :D

luxury......no she bloody doesn't.......I stoped her doing that years ago. LOL
caj1......just had a thought......I wouldn't change your diet at the moment or take any added supplements as they may cloud your blood tests.

Thanks L. I'll post back and let you know how it all goes xx
hi caj1.
ive suffered with the effects of anemia since i was about 15 even more so when im on a period or after having my children. They dont seem to give out ferrouse acid anymore unless your blood count is really low. Eat loads of greens and i find if i have fruit smoothies for breakfast it makes a difference.
