We are all so different. What determines our ideas of what is funny and what is not? Several threads have made me wonder this today.

How do our 'sense of humours' develop, what influences them.

So did I silka!! In fact, I think a lot of people did.

I can't stand 'jokes'! I never find them funny.
That's a really good question! Can't put my finger on it, but if I did, it would make me laugh ;0)

and what is funny about circus clowns?
Yup thats me, daft, youve got a childish sense of humour too Sachs, it makes me laugh
I also screeched at Todd on the skating thing
Todds ice skating made me howl!!
todds on ice was funny at the time, but like intellectual humour myself!!!
I dont find clowns funny and most comedians dont make me laugh, but someone making a complete idiot of themselves without meaning too gets my vote.
I have to add I have a very good sense of humour.
traditionally circus clowns often did the same acts as the serious performers but made a mess of them, so they were a bit like court jesters (or Tommy Cooper, say) mocking the institution they were working for. I don't know that they operate this way any more, though.

But what is a good sense of humour sachs? It must mean different things to different people, surely.

GSOH in Job Ads, for example - how do you define it? What someone sees as a GSOH, others might see as stupidity.

You said it zac.
As it says on this link - 'The question is simple, but the answer is not.....read on:

Hmmm. Quite interesting, Smudge.

I rarely appreciate the American sense of humour, or American comedy shows, except I find Will Self very funny and enjoy Frazier!!

I enjoy spontaneous quick witted humour and humour resulting in tales from real life.

But then, who could not find Tommy Cooper funny!!
