You are crossing the road and you get run over by a car. You have multiple life threatening injuries. You have no paperwork on you and you cannot speak. They will still scrape you of the road and take you to hospital, fix you up no questions asked, regardless of cost. I know of only one, there may be others.

What's an E111?
Blackcat....E111 was a card that enabled one to get EMERGENCY care in any of the Eurozone countries and since 2006 has been replaced by theEuropean Insurance Card (EHIC) which enables the family to get routine and emergency health care in the EU.

For more information Google EHIC
A few years ago France was top of the tables Geezer

The US spent more than any other country and only rated 37th we spent less than half of that and came 18th

I guess it's because all of those private hospitals all have to pay their share holders.

It always amazes me that people who advocate a private system seem to think their current insurance would cover it.

I think on average it costs about 200 a head a month in the US for insurance so $800 or so for a familly of 4.

Of course should you get old the costs skyrocket.
geezer....also in that survey linked by jake, Spain was 3rd.

Healthcare in the civilised world may be excellent, adequate or unacceptable...........all countries and that also includes the UK.
Thanks sqad - that is interesting to know/
Of course, you could always look both ways before crossing the road. Then you wouldn't need to worry. Just a thought, like. ;-)

Jake, who's advcating a private system? i'm a great supporter of the NHS, if you read again I'm very proud of our NHS, could be a bit more efficient but generally it's agood thing to have. We seem to have drifted off subject, I'm not saying the NHS is better than other places and that you can't get fixed up. It's the pre requisite of demonstrating you can pay, that this is about.
Cuba (possibly)
Lynn_M....an excellent answer.....CUBA has a first class health service.
