bluedolphin, Is this a follow on from your Fentanyl question? I hope you're not planning anything sinister! To answer your question: If you are given the anaesthetic, you drift off to sleep(these are known as induction agents, usually given via the cannula in the back of your hand). Once asleep you are manually ventilated into a deeper sleep/paralysis, after which the tube is placed in your throat and the anaesthetic gases are given via that. Whilst asleep a small probe is placed on your finger which monitors the oxygen saturation within your bloodstream(known as a pulse oxymeter). If the saturation falls below 93/94 this will be acted upon. I doubt very much that you would suffer brain/organ damage whilst undergoing an operation because the situation would not be allowed to develope that drastically.

Thanks Philtaz...no I'm not planning anything sinister...its that I am suspecting that it is being done to me during treatment at a clinic I am attending over the last 6weeks or so...would like to discuss this possibilty more but here is not really the place.... Dont want to go into my particular medical condition here but would really like to ask u a few more Qs re: above Is there any possibility that I could contact u privately in by email....? Would AB editor allow me to post a hotmail address? thanks.

bluedolphin - sorry we cannot allow email addresses. Perhaps it would be best to approach a professional for a face-to-face discussion?
