yesterday mornning i came out of hospital. i had taken an overdose of paracetamol about 70 - 100. after 7 or 8 hours i went to the locoal a&e i was admitted and put on parvolax with was to protect my vital organs i.e liver kidneys
after that they took a blood test to see how much para was running through my blood and it was sky high the put me on another 2 hour drip and moved me to the e.m.u (emergancy medical unit) i had to stay there over night . after the 2 hour drip they said to me that the amount in my blood ment that i had to go onto a 16 hour drip. it did me some good in a bad way i was in there with three older men and they couldnt breathe, walk or even stand but they where there in there beds joking and flirting with the nurses just as much as i did but it made me think deep inside. in total i had about 2000mgs over 24hours. im out and back at work with the person i love but i am having really bad headaches, beathing problems and light headed and blurry vision is this because of the parvolax?

I have no idea but I hope you get the help and support from people you need.
Think you should phone NHS24 to be honest -that is a serious O/D and im surprised you are back working.

I really hope you are never in the position again that you feel the need to do that.x

Take Care and please seek medical advice just to be on the safe side xx
Your GP is the best one to give you advice on that. All the toxins that were in your body is bound to have some effect on how you feel at the moment.
I am glad that you are okay, but please see your GP ASAP. Hopefully, you may be referred to a CPN.
I can only wish you well and hope you make a good recovery from the place that made you take the overdose in the first place. xxx

Imagine posting on a real issue and because you are green you are treated with suspicion and derision -sorry state of affairs-at least my conscience is clear.
Oh ...not this again...why are folk always so suspicious????.....just give the man the benefit of the doubt. There is no harm in givng advice and support.

hi, I'm a doctor so maybe able to put things in perspective. A standard paracetemol, which you can buy over the counter is 500mgs. Therfore, if he had taken 2000mgs, that equates to 4 tablets and nowhere near resulting in an overdose.

If it was a genuine overdose of 70-100 mgs, the first thing the doctors would do is get his stomach pumped. not put him on drip, that would cpme after to neutralise any remaining residue of the paracetemol.
looks like you just saved him Doc, good on you!
mentalchaos posted he had taken 70-100 paracetamol i presume thats how many tablets he had taken not mgs. 7-8 hours after taking the overdose he went into hospital this may have been to late to have a stomach pump hench the parvolax. It takes a period of up to 5 days for the paracetamol to damage the kidneys and liver buy this time he would of been transfered to a high independancy unit.
as for the side affects of parvolax would be nothing compared to the damage of the liver even though the liver can re-generate its self.
consider your self a lucky person mentalchaos that you are now well and alive. i wish you well
Hospitals rarely pump stomachs now Wotsits, they would have been wasting their time if they had as the poster says he had taken the tablets 7 or 8 hours previous to seeking treatment so there would be little to no solid matter in the stomach to pump out. The normal approach to paracetamol overdose is to check the levels of the drug in the blood and then give the antidote via intravenous drip. The drip is administered in several doses of varying amounts as the poster mentioned. When the levels of paracetamol in the blood are low enough the patient is seen by a member of the mental health team at the hospital and assessed as to whether they are still a danger to themselves. They are then discharged if all is well.
The 2000mgs mentioned by the poster was not the amount of paracetamol taken but the amount of antidote given.

I know the procedure through personal experience mentalchaos. I have had to have the same antidote as you when I accidentally overdosed on far less paracetamol due to really bad toothache, also when I deliberately overdosed fairly recently. I hate it when people don't read the question properly and then make judgements. :-(
I do not for one moment beleive that Wotsits is a doctor!!!

I never had any side effects from when I had the antidote so I can't advise you on that,I would make an emergency appointment to see your GP if you are still worried.x
