When trying to conceive say it is day 13 of your cycle (the day before you may ovulate) is it better to have sex everyday until you do ovulate and a day or 2 after or is that taking it a bit too far and 1-2 times may do the job just as well?! I'm just wondering cos thats where I am at the moment and don't know whether it would increase the chance of becoming pregnant by having sex every day for the next week or whether to do it every other day instead.

The easiest & cheapest way to tell if you are ovulating is to ask your GP for a free ovulation temperature chart. You then take your temperature every morning as soon as you wake and before you get out of bed, then note it on the chart. If my memory serves me well I think your temperature rises and then dips (or is it the other way around?) when you ovulate. Anyway, the chart will tell you. I think that having sex every other day just before & during ovulation will be fine. You can help your chances by using the missionary position with a pillow under your hips and then keeping your hips raised for 30 mins after sex.
It worked for me with all my pregnancies.
Good luck.
I think you can download those charts.
they usually recommend every other day. No point in it becoming a chore, but your hubby gets a chance to resupply himself lol

Start 2-3 days before ovulation too as sperm can survive for a few days in there.

If you go down the charting temp routes then I know lots of women who use this site http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ its very easy to chart and see when you ovulate.
Not being a parent, and having been "done" myself I would not know. I do know however that the age of a woman affects her fertility tremendously. There are 2 types of women at a fertility clinic, those who can't get pregnant, and those who can't stop getting pregant. A woman in her 30s can try for months, and get nowhere, whereas a girl in her early teens is likely to get pregnant with one single accident. I also know that a couple who do not use any birth control, and want to conceive will have an 80% chance of conception in first year. Sorry I can't be more help, but you have not told us your age, if you don't mind our asking.
i have been tested twice b4 for fetility tests...doc told me both times that i have a low sperm count and the sperm are lazy....myself and my wife were due to go to see an i.v.f consultant on the 10th sept 08....i admit i do not have a high sex drive,,we have sex maybe 3 times a month,,i have took steroids and drugs in past and i drink and i smoke albiet not too much these days...i was very concerned i would not be able to have anymore kids....

MY WIFE IS NOT PREGGY!!!!!!!!! done the test on fri afternoon-positive....done another on sat morn-positive.....so so happy and exited ..

so it is possible...dont give up...keep trying...my wife didnt listen to me when i said we could try after 11 days as my research on the net suggested....she was adimant that we try 2 days after her period finished...hey presto...

i hope this helps....all the best and goog luck to you,s...
also after we had sex my wife (kept shut) and put two pillows under her lower back...so that this would give the sperm a helping hand if u like..
bloody hell.!!!!i think i need a coffee to wake m up here....i meant to say...MY WIFE IS ( NOW) PREGGY ............

thanks for all the answers.
I'm nearly 32 so not that old lol but my age does concern me a little.
I already have a daughter so everything should be in working order but I guess you can still have problems second time round.
There's no immediate rush its only been just over 2 months of trying I just want to have the best chance of conceiving thats all.
I'm glad its not necessary to have sex everyday around ovulation cos it would definitely become a chore!
You can do it too often and it does lower your chances - we went for fetility tests after taking a long time to get pregnant and at that point were having sex at least once a day and more at weekends - the consultant asked us how often we did the deed and thought our answer was per month and not per week! After all our tests were negative and we had slowed down a bit, I got pregnant the next month.
