Hi, for quite a while now, if I am relaxing and go almost but not quite into a little sleep I get flashes of images come into my head. They surely cannot be dreams because I'm not actually asleep. They are never of people of places I know which is strange. A couple of examples...somebody walking across a big zebra crossing, a bus stopped for them but as they crossed another vehicle passed the bus and I could tell they were going to get run down...a family sitting on some outside steps posing for a photograph, and the man I presume was the father was holding up a really large white board saying 'Cara'. I would love to hear any ideas you may all have about what I am experiencing. Thank you in advance!

It's something called Hypnagogia I think. I know about Hypnogogic (just falling asleep) and Hypnopompic (just waking up) visual & auditory hallucinations. But yours is not a vision or sound and is probably covered under the broader phenomena of Hypnagogia, which includes a variety of experiences.
yeah i get this. But they tend to be weak images (as in not very vivid) but very strong audio...er things. Like i will clearly hear things like rain as if their actually happening. Or doors opening and closing, or sometimes, but rarley people talking. It doesnt happen very oftern. Usually only if i NEED to sleep. And the only time i need to sleep is for work. Ive also found it works if i dont just lay there, but if i actually diliberatley try to make it happen. I have a problem with my eyes, where i can just shut them at rest, so i have to try and sleep in a pitch black room to simulate my eyes being properly closed. I find when i do this, the audio things in my head get more intense, i suppose its a way of my brain trying to make up the fact its like ive lost two of my senses, sight and sound. But its amazing what your brain can do init? Its like some kind of alien technology thats not yet being fully tapped into. Or something like the PS3, the technology is there, but it hasnt being fully taken advantage of yet. A stupid analogy, but i know what i mean! LOL :p

serendipity, what do you feel this means?

Wiz, You said recently things have happened that are causing you to re-think. is this what the mystery has been about? (If you don't mind me asking).

Oh, sorry Wiz, I switched my computer off before you posted those last messages. I've seen your post in R&S, so I'll speak to you there. (Sorry for leaving this message here on your thread Serendipity - I just felt I should answer Wizard).

Thanks everyone for giving me your opinions. Danny, I also have had audio experiences and they happened on a few different occasions, but for the same reason.I'll explain...before I had a shower I used to run a bath at 6.30 every morning, and I used to fall asleep while the bath was running, flooding the bathroom 6 times! Then, weirdly, the next few times that I fell asleep with the water running, loud sounds such as a door slamming, or a man shouting would wake me just as the water reached the top of the bath. There are no men in my house, and there were never really any doors being slammed. Weird, I know! So what's it all about?
