I don't know but did you ever see the episode of THe Outer Limits where they try to teleport some animals and end up creating a knot in the fabric of time??? It was sooo cool!
They have done that quite a few years ago, and do think that transporting simple matter will be possible. When it comes to complex matter such as animals or humans that will never be possible . If you ever saw The Fly (Jeff Goldblum) when they teleport a dog and get it wrong you will know why it is impossible .... poor thing was inside out when it arrived at the other end! There is too much complex matter to be rearranged for a start, although not impossible, BUT it is the fact that this is living matter. Once it is disassembled to transport you are basically dead! So in one respect Sci-Fi is on the right tracks with teleporting solid matter, but anything living is just not gonna happen. Beam me up Scotty ..........
600m is the record but its not like star trek teleportation. It uses a thing called quantum entanglement bbc news story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3576594.stm
