Yes, by a combination of physical examination, blood tests and varying types of radiology.
Depends which type of arthritis, for example, rhumatoid is detectable by a blood test and blood tests can pick up on inflammation.

If you're worried, could you ask for a referral to a rhumatologist to have a look at you?

I had a load of blood tests done and at rhumatology was thoroughly examined and had x-rays and more blood tests done.

There are many different types of arthritis and some are connected to other conditions.

What kind of pains are you having where?

What kind of work do you do? Does it involve any repetetive movement of your hands or arms?

You could try and get a referral to a physio centre for assessment.
It could be stress that's causing it.( In another thread you say your father has a cancererous growth ). I get pains that seem to move about when I'm stressed up, probably because the body is tense, they go once the problem is over. Trying to relax , deep breathing and walks help me at these times. Hope this helps.
