I have the opposite fear. I can't run down the stairs like some can. I think it stems from when my cousin pushed me down a flight of stairs when I was about 6 or 7.
I do have a fear of heights (or more precise, falling from a height) but about twenty years ago a had an irrational fear of bridges, and couldn't cross one. This ranged from the QE2 Bridge to a wooden one across a ditch in the forest.

In the end I forced myself to do things and gradually it has gone.
ive had hypnoanalysis when i thought i had a phobia of air con. it turned out the problem wasnt that really but issues from childhood that are locked away and manifest themselves in other ways. id say i was scared of heights but was amazed that i can now go up and down high escalators, look down and have no problem, its bizarre. if you have hypnoanalysis it is supposed to correct other issues as an all round thing generally. by the way, dont get confused with hypnotherapy, the guy i went to see did that aswell but its more a short term thing and done with the power of suggestion. look up hypnoanalysis and see if it is for you. cbt is something else totally, ive tried it too and it didnt really work and too long winded i found. good luck.
