This site is excellent on helping with all sorts of problems or tips, so why not? you're anonymous (part from user name) and it's like having your own agony aunt/uncle!
Something you ask on here may also be of help to someone who dared not ask!
With an email it goes to someone you usually know, so some people find it easier to 'talk' to a faceless person.

Sometimes a person may have a direct question for another person but have no other means of contacting them. i.e. no email address, chat programme contact, phone number etc.

It could be that they don't know the email, for example I don't know Potter Minor's email, nor, most regrettably, his password.
