My farther died nearly 16 year ago and imvery interested in the cause i know it was cancer but i take a great interest in medical issues and was wondering how long medical records are kept and if there is anyway i could still get accsess to them

i'm pretty sure they are destroyed after 15 years, some of them are transfered to filma nd may still be in hospital archives. call your fathers' local health authority or the hospital where he was treated.
medical records can be destroyed seven years after the entry or four years where the person has died
Although his medical records may well have been destroyed (although cancer cases' records are usually kept longer) the entery in the Deaths Register will still be available. This can be accessed through your local registrar where you should be able to obtain a copy of the entry. You would find it difficult to access the medical records anyway without consent for confidentiality reasons. Hope this helps
