Does seem a bit odd; usually excercise brings it down.
I will ask mr sunflower later, he's diabetic.

Hi Sunflower
Could it possibly be dehydration as when bending over too much fluid not advisable

dosent matter if you have sweet stuff or not surely any food brings up your blood sugar?
Hi Dave G
As bednobs said, any type of food will raise your sugar levels. Fats, carbohydrates etc will increase them.
Lots of hidden sugar in foods that you would not be aware of at all.
I am reading you correctly here - an hour and a half after food you wife's BM went up to 11.5 mmol/l, whilst her fasting (ie before breakfast) one was 6.3 ? If this is correct, then she needs to return to her GP or Diabetic Clinic for further advice - the post prandial reading should not really be above 10. The fasting one is fine though and below the *ideal* of 7. Did she have a very large lunch maybe ? If it was just a snack then she might need a little extra help (tablets) to control her diabetes.

As bednobs has indicated - all foods will raise blood sugar levels. The problem with sugar is that it raises it too quickly, too much which is why she needs to avoid sugary stuff where possible and eat slow acting carbohydrates.
Apologies - I meant *ideal maximum* not just *ideal* - fasting BM's should be between 3.5 and 7 mmol/l.

If it was just a one-off situation, I wouldn't worry about it, but maybe your wife should continue to check her blood sugar levels

Hi All
Jen had a sandwich and a cup of coffee (small) for lunch. 20 mins ago 5 pm another test and it is 6.5
thank you all for your help and advice
she will watch it closely for the next few days annd see what happens
This is only third time she has been above 10 in the 9 months she has benn testing ,since diagnosis
many thanks again
Dave G
Bread is high in carbs and will raise the blood sugar level. Best diet for diabetics is Atkins. If she reads the Atkins book it will show what foods are high in carbs. I rarely eat apples now as the have a huge amount of carbohydrate in them, I try and restrict myself to berries and melon with the odd kiwi
Question Author
Hi Thugulike
I do not believe that anyone can now be serious about the atkins diet it is an unhealthy diet
the best diet is still a varied diet of meat and veg allthough I understand that people are veggies for varouus reasons
