Was just wondering what kind of thing you go to the docs for if you are well. Was sat in waiting room today and a nurse came out spotted someone she knew and said 'oh hello, its really nice to see you, you look well' so had me thinking how could she be well if she's sat waiting to see the doctor

On docs signing photos; my terminally Dad was visited once or twice a week at home for months by his doc. My mum, who didn't have a passport, was encouraged by us to get one so she could eventually have a much needed holiday.

I suggested she ask the doc when he called, which she did, so that perhaps as a pensioner he would do her a favour and sign without a surgery visit or a charge. He looked at the photos, and her, said she was actually registered with another doc in the group practice and he would take it back to them for signing. Crazy. Then he lost the photos and she had to start again.
loads of things - immunizations, getting malaria pills in anticipation of a trip away, having a toe dressing done, depression, check up after a healed broken leg, removal of stitches etc

as for the money thing, where do you think it goes? The doctor is using their time to provide you a service, so therefore you pay them. You would expect anyone else to get paid for providing you with a srvice. They dont have enough time during their surgery time to sign loads of forms so they are doing it in their own time. if you are ill then the service is free. For add ons that arent nessacary for health they charge a fee (and why not?)

I;m gonna make my dad charge from now on and pocket the money. I guess Its no biggie if they've had an appintment for something and said well while I;m here...
I must admit I have the best doctors - I moved from a busy South London surgery in 2000 to a small village surgery. The first time I walked in, the receptionist apologised to me for it being so busy; - there were 3 people waiting!!! I thought if this is busy, they should have seen where I had just come from! Its the best ever, the doctor puts through on his computer, the prescription, and you pick them up from the little pharmacy attached to the doctors surgery - fantastic! Still have to pay for it though, thought it might be free in the country - damn government!
