You cannot shift fat from a specific spot regardless of exercise. You create a calorie deficit and the body will use some fat, it will take it from where it feels like it and unfortunately that's not often from where you would like it to take it! You can however tone up the abs with a variety of exercises in readiness for when that six pack is, hopefully, revealed! Good luck!
Running is the best way to burn fat. Try adding in some weight (resistance workouts) like body pump.

Running can be hard to get into, I started to use Nike plus a few months ago. Used with normal trainers, putting the sensor under my trainer tongue. This is a real help making runs more fun, which monitors progress.

You can target fat by doing sit ups after, which will help. Different people will lose fat from different parts of their body faster. This means normally from places you want to lose slower (sods law).

Your diet is a big factor! You can exercise right, but if youre still eating pie & chip with loads of beer then you will not lose fat very fast.

Try reducing carbs and eat more 'good' fats like nuts & fish. Along with more fruit & veg.
