Breathing thru 2 nostrils?

I have heard several times that we only actually breathe thru one nostril at a time! I think this is a load of BS! Does anyone have any evidence to support/disprove this load of nonsense? Incidentally, I went out early one morning and noted that because my breath was visible, both nostrils produced an equally visible plume of vapour! How can you explain that?!

I can't breath as well through my left nostril as my right one so i guess there's some truth in that for me.
i have been monitering my breathing through my nose since yesterday (seriously look what you are making me do!!) and it seems that mainly it is only one nostril at a time :) i said yesterday it was my right one but today it's the left. Guess they must job share :)
Take two fingers, lick the ends and hold under your nostrils and breathe. Unless I am the only double-nostril breathing freak, you will feel warm breath on both of them.
It may be that one of your nostrils is more blocked than the other giving the impression that it just comes out of one more than the other. I can't think of any good logical reason why both wouldn't be equally used under normal circumstances. I'll get back to you if I find contradictory evidence : )
