I would say tummy bug or tummy ache, my friends have often laughed at me. I asked them what else should I say and they said belly.

I was watching Bear Grylls in Costa Rica last night and he said a tummy bug and I wouldnt have thought anything of it but my friend laughed and said why is he saying tummy bug??

Is it childish? A north/south thing?

well i've been known to use a mix of both.
tummy bug or belly ache!!
And I originate from the north and now live in the south - proper mixed up lol
Hi Goodsoulette...I'd say 'tummy' too. I'm a southerner.
I say tummy ache then have a good belly laugh, funny isn't it.
Tummy is obvliously a shortened form of stomach. I say tummy ache, rumbling tummy, tummy trouble, tummy bug...

Belly comes from the old Anglo-Saxon word belg, meaning bag. I say belly laugh, belly dancing, beer belly, delhi belly..

I think both are equally correct.
i'd say tummy and im from the midlands, think belly sounds quite american, not sure why!
See I'd say Tummy Bug or Belly Ache... but Belly Bug just sounds odd!
I also think Belly makes me think of a big hairy man belly... but tummy sounds more slender! Lol
round here it is belly whack.
i say tumbly....
i think tummy is meant for your actual stomach, but belly can refer to that whole area, such as period pains can be belly ache but not tummy ache

Well Im glad I am not the only adult that says that. Thanks for origins of belly, Ethel.
Bad guts!! Gut rot!! but I would probably say upset stomach.
its a toss up where I come from (birmingham) we say both belly and tummy, I have always said tummy as opposed to belly, belly reminds me of the ad where the belly chases the man and falls of the bridge (chanting "bellies gonna get yaa")
I come from the states but i live in the West country...I have always said tummy and it is gut rot with the right people! lol
I usually say gutsache but it's not very ladylike especially from someone of my advancing years!
I say stomach: maybe as a child I probably said 'tummy'
