Ray, just seen you pop up. You are man of taste and class and, in the nicest possible way, kind of remember the 60's.

What is your view on Petula Clark? I have just bought her greatest hits and apart from Downtown, didn't know any of the stuff.

The song "My Love" is absolutely fantastic.

Was she an icon in the 60's?

Was she crumpet?

Should I persist in purchasing some more albums?

Hello wardy, She was indeed very popular in the 60s she is a very talented lady with a good voice, she was very attractive but considered by some to be "an old bag" as she went off with a married man, but she has survived the test of time and has probably been recording for some 50 years, not an easy thing to do, but personally i much prefer the wonderful, Dusty Springfield

You probably would not like all she does, as with most albums, you wonder why they put certain songs on them, might be worth trying youtube to see if any of her songs are on the site. happy listening, joe.
Just re-read the first part, taste and class, thank you wardy it has never been said before, or again indeed
I saw Petula playing Maria Von Trapp in 'The Sound Of Music' during it's run in 1980 (I think).

She was fabulous.

Here's the song I mentioned. Not as good as the studio recording, but beautiful in its simplicity and very romantic lyrics.

Lovely eyes she has.
Hi wardy, this one shows what a versatile singer she is, mind you she did marry a froggie

Very nice Uncle. The old 60's birds are just "naturally" better looking than the current stock. No botox, nose jobs and $2000 make up sessions.

I may now get some Dusty springfield as well. I only have The Preacher Man one on Pulp Fiction sountrack and "I just don't know what to do with myself" on a compo.

Dusty was crumpet to by all accounts.
Hello wardy, Dusty springfield was superb, specially the slow, soulfull songs she did, very dark eye make up, I did a lot of work for her when she lived in Notting Hill gate, I got a very strong feeling that she batted for the womens team if you get my drift. a little taster for you, she was great, but very sad life.

Petula is Welsh. She went back to Merthyr Tydfil recently to see her old school etc. Another great Welsh singer!
Dusty certainly did bat for the womens team..and my mother tells me that Dusty got her smouldering eye make up from sleeping with her make up on.

She would simply re apply the make up every evening!
This thread reminds me of Julie Android running up a hill, and also that we used to beat Haberdashers at cricket every year.
I spent most of the 60's trying desperately to copy Dusty's extravagant hairstyles, only to find out later that they were wigs! Luckily my hair survicved all the bleaching, backcombing and lacquering!!
Were Haberdashers the womens team, whiffey?
put your pads on whiffey you are in next.
Oh no I'm not !! I used to bunk off cricket, football, all rotten sports. Shooting, gymnastics, high-board-diving, that's all I was good at. My platoon in the CCF was kept behind for extra drill every Thursday without fail. Ah, school.....
a child star in music hall and then the movies (her first film was in 1944) eg as one of the famous Huggett family

This question was specifically asked to Uncle Ray, so does these other names besides Ray's mean that they are Ray's aliases?
Good god society, you mean I have been talking to myself all this time, I thought I was cracking up now I know I am, can't remember being you though, christ i'm doing it again. I need another tablet I gotta stop this, now.
Look society, it's hard enough for me to keep the Uncle/Nephew relationship going anyway, without all the bother of remembering who I am logged in as.
lol uncle ray :-)

BTW Wardy, I love Petula Clarke. I think she's a great entertainer with a beautiful voice.
