I am desperate to learn to swim but I am terrified of water - my sister thinks she knows where ther fear stems from but I cannot get over the phobia. Can anyone recommend a hypnotherapist in the Liverpool area? I know they don't come cheap but I am more concerned with finding one with a good reputation & not someone who is just out to make money from gullible people. Has anyone out there used a practicioner in this neck of the woods?

its all word off mouth. yellow pages are a good place to start and then ask the therepist for letters of recommendation , then get in contact with some people that have been and ask them. I would suggest that you start by talking to a qualified swimming teacher at your local leisure centre you ll be suprised how much they can help. This will also depend on how terrified you really are! try it out.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this but I've used Tom Sweeney who is based in Southport but is prepared to travel.
His website address is:

I was training to become a trainer but got severe nerves when I stood up in front of 12 people. I was losing tons of sleep as I was that nervous and was stuttering and everything. I decided to give Hypnotherapy a go and called Tom who saw me on a Saturday. I continued using the techniques Tom gave when preparing for the next lesson I was going to deliver and the transformation was amazing, so much so that the other 12 people with me all commented that I was a different person yet none of them knew I went for Hypnotherapy. I also recommended Tom to my relative who was having panic attacks and he helped her as well.

I'd definitely recommend him, top bloke!
