For the same reason that we have 2, and cats have 4, and fish have none. Besides, if they had 7 they'd be lopsided and would lollop rather than walk.

spiders need to move equally well to each side as well as forwards and backwards 8 legs allows them to do this.... see i can do serious :)

Why ducks stand on one leg? coz if they took it away they would fall over!!!

I wish spiders had no legs, so then I could stamp on them knowing that they couldn't scuttle off into another direction!!

Yea netibiza have to agree with you tottaly on that one we have a big boris in our living room that keeps appearing every now and then and even the dog cant catch it and ratty thought that was a stork you bloody (have learnt last night that you can say bloody on here and it wont get bleeped) b@nker

they need two to cover their eyes when women take a run and jump to stamp on them.
two to steady them selves when theyre climbing out of the plug hole.
two to walk on and two to kick the ants with when they try to nick their dinner !
