i have to have an operation and prior to that i have to give some blood at the hospital so they can check my blood type and have some on reserve and also to check everything is ok enough for me to have an op. but i had a bit of a drink last night and i am a little hungover. will a hangover affect the readings of my blood for these purposes?

Alcohol wont affect your blood group and i doubt it will affect the other tests, depends what they need. Unless you are still over the limit now, then you dont need to worry.
Probably best to let them know just in case there can be any effect, rather that than there being any problem at a later date x
mention it to them - but i'm sure it'll be fine if all they are doing is checking your blood group, iron levels, infections etc
I'm a phlebotomist (someone who takes blood samples for exactly this purpose). Alcohol won't affect any of your blood tests. It will only show up in a test performed specifically to identify for alcohol consumption (which yours won't!)

thanks guys, i wanted to get it sorted as quickly as possible, but on reflection I am going to leave it till tomorrow morning. based on the fact that if it is a problem, my boss will be a bit annoyed if i have to have time off twice!
