Is it true that an engagement ring should cost one months salary? Is it bad luck if it doesn't?

I've never heard of it being bad luck Ib24. And why a month's salary? You stick to what you can afford. If you truly love each other money should'nt matter. Good luck:-))
Well mine was 86 when we got engaged in 1965 and I think my OH then earned about 24 a month. So that was a lot of many in those days.
my husband paid 250 for mine 2 years ago! I don't think we could manage if that was his monthly salary. :-)
An engagement ring should mean what it actually symbolises...not what it costs. Money shouldn't come into it.
I agree, my engagement ring cost no where near a months salary, probably even less than a weeks at the time - but it was bought with love and that's what matters!!

A xXx
Load of nonsense!! superstitious twaddle!!!
Yep - twaddle!!

My diamond engagement ring was second hand & cost nowhere near a months salary! Even if it had, it wouldn't have made an atom of difference as we're still together after all these years (albeit thro' all the ups & downs of life)!

My wedding ring cost my husband 6 Guineas from James Walker way back in 1964. It's 22 carat gold & despite all the nappy changing, household chores & gardening, it still looks as good as the day it was placed on my finger 42 years ago!
