I've just had my ear syrringed to rid myself of a blockage in my ear, and have still, one hour later, got a roaring sound in my ear and muffled hearing in that ear. Is this a common side effect of the water? or a more subtle problem that I should get checked out?

I get my ears done regularly and I also feel a strange sensation in my ear for a couple of days. It is either that the sounds are really clear or really muffled. If it is still happening tomorrow morning, I would go back to the drs

Thanks BagPuss, the reason i went to the drs in the first place was because of this roaring in my ear. I can hear everything at a lower duller pitc. Even after syringing its still there. So now i'm unsure of what could be causing it...
I thought ear-syringing has been stopped now - because it can cause more problems than it resolves (in a kind of 'health and safety' frenzy)? Obviously not though. Good luck with your ears amulet.
Could be middle ear infection my ears have been like it for years .
Having your ears done by actual syringe has been stopped but what I have done , and what I suspect amulat had done is that they effectivly use a high pressure water spray to wash the wax from your ears.. Just like jet washing your driveway!.. well same principle anyway..

Hope your ears are ok now amulet
