I am obviously ginger or I wouldn't be addressing this, yes people say to me, oh but you're more aubern or red, but I am ginger. I want to educate people who arn't ginger as to the damaging nature of their comments. Not for me (I'm 42 and can cope with it) BUT I get increasingly angry when a lot of things now, due to the PC attitude can't be joked about (even Trevor McDonald tonite was defending the Kazastans) and yet ginger can be ridiculed at any time of the day by anyone. As I said, I can cope and joke but I'm bored of it. I have been approached by at least 5 sets of parents whose children have ginger hair and are 6 or 7 year old kids who are being teased or ridiculed because of this, and obviously doing this to ginger haired people is an OK thing to do. I haven't space here to tell you two experiences I have had so I'll put them in a first answer. I hope the adults out there realise how daft it is to talk about "gingers" as if they are a different race, who don't deserve respect. I have black friends & relatives who have had similar experiences as children, but thankfully their's has been dealt with.

Exactly Wardy!

What did I say?

I was sitting with a ginger a person when I asked the question.

Half my family are ginger....In fact I have two of them in the house tonight.....So I'm not ginger racist....am I chip?
My little boy experienced his first bit of gingerism a couple of weeks ago when we walking to my aunts house. To little boys were muttering it under their breaths walking behind us. J couldnt hear and was yapping on to me, in the end I had enough and was greeted with 2 fat dirty 10 year olds. I asked them if they were bullies and they said no. I told them they were and asked it if I would they would like it if I walked behind them calling them fat. They were very surprised that I thought they were fat. They then apologised to my unknowing son and ran away from his scary mum.

I think Ginger is getting cooler and cooler. Maybe thanks to Weasleys I dont know, but people give my little boy money when we are out in town, like they do when you have a new born baby and hes 5 now.

1. Walking across the playground to collect my blonde children (so proud!) a Dad approached me (ran up to me) and the dialogue went "excuse me but is that your natural colour?" "yes" "Did you get bullied at school" "I got teased, but it makes you a stronger person, you get sick of it" "my daughter doesn't want to come to school anymore, cos all her friends are picking on her and saying you can't play if you've got ginger hair, and the boys are all making jokes." "she hates herself and she's angry with us for giving her ginger hair".

2. In the park, 2 grandparents came up to me with about a 6 year old girl with a hat on. Dialogue: "excuse me, but have you always had hair like that?" "Yes" taking the hat off their beautiful grandaughter they said "See Amy, you'll end up looking like that lady, she's alright isn't she?" This lovely kid nodded her head, while these grandparents went on to explain that they didn't understand where on earth the ginger had come from as her mam and dad both had dark hair. I said ginger's great you'll be brilliant to the little girl, Just at that the mam and dad turned up with younger dark haired brother, and the grandparents said "right bye, Amy, put your hat back on"

I know, I know exactly where you are coming from Ward Minter, and when people get older we can all accept these things. I just get angry that especially from a TV point of view everything is unPC to laugh about except ginger.

I have red hair and i'm ok with it! Its a fairly nice shade of red! I have been complemented on it a few times! Comments were made during my school years but as Wardy pointed out kids will pick on other kids for just about anything! I have a blond kid and a dark haired kid(questions have been asked!)!
