we didn't evolve from apes. We had a common ancestor. Some of its descendants evolved into apes, others became humans.
Im still an ape
We are called great apes, just like gorillas, chimps orang-utangs
and I'm a monkeys aunt
not a very nice thing to say about your nephew ,forget.:)
oops 4get.
where did the arctic monkeys evolve from then?

Not sure if it tells you why there are still apes but hey ho!
It's all so much nonsense. When God had amused himself by conjuring up Galapagos turtles, red-bummed baboons, and magpies, He created Man in His own image.

I saw a documentary once about this Planet that apes actually ruled over. They even had their own Statue of Liberty and everything. Hang on a second...
As jno says above. I must confess to being a little cynical about the number of questions asking this exact thing of late.

Seems a bit more than a coincidence. I wonder where this has appeared to spark so many versions?

read through this thread from the other day - 4 or 5 posts down answers your question v nicely.

additionally when you ask a question you are presented with a list of questions siminal that have been asked before... not moaning - but it might be an idea just to scan through them before posting next time
The question is posed in a slightly naive manner but if you rephrase it
Sorry about that

if you phrase it somewhat differently it's more interesting

If an organism develops a mutation that gives it a greater advantage over the rest of its kind will it always out-compete it's un-mutated relatives so that they become extinct? If not what are the critea that would allow them to co-exist?
jake, Lamarck would have had issues with that.
jake obviously your question would get lots more answers ?
whiffey i have a bruise now , when you pushed me out the way !
