Can anyone tell me what the advert was for - big screen with a blue "big brother" mans face on. Everyone watching appears to be at the cinema watching it

Wasn't that an add for Apple ?? Maybe, the new Macintosh...

It was the launch ad for Apple. Apple launched in the UK in 1984, hence the George Orwell 1984 Big Brother theme. I think it was shot by Ridley Scott, who used to direct ads before moving to film.
