The area will be totally numb! depends what they are doing to you, you may be aware of pulling or pushing but not pain, you will also be given a pre-med that will settle you so nothing is likely to bother you.

Ita a walk in the park, I promise.
You really wont feel it.I have found it awkward when having treatment on head/neck areas tho as they seem to be coming at you with various things. Just look at the ceiling or the wall and try to ignore whats going on.It really is a doddle! Your imagination can cause havoc too so just try and think of something nice and it will be over in no time.
its better to have a local than a general ! depending on what sort of operation it is you may feel some pulling but you should not feel any pain ! try to relax
I have had many and watched all on a monitor i found it fascinating

Good luck

Cheers guys that make me feel a bit better, and Bigtone no way am i watching anything on a monitor, will they let me read a book or a mag do you think?
i dont think you would be able to concentrate on a book ?
try chatting the nurses up if you like!!!
The only stuff I've ever had done under local is dental work, but some of that has been big stuff that involved the dentist working right into my jawbone.

You feel the initial sting from the anaesthetic needle, and maybe a couple more if they inject on multiple sites, but after that - just some pulling and pushing. Best not to look, either, although if it's in a viewable area, a thoughtful team will put up a shield so you can't see. Sometimes they'll have a radio or some music switched on. I had my op to the strains of Terry Wogan on a Monday morning! That can really help you not to think about things.

You might be a little sore afterwards, once the local wears off, but you can have painkillers for that.

Good luck.

Cheers Saxy and BT, forgot about music, could take my mp3 close my eyes and let floyd take me away!, thanks for your answers guy's feeling much happier and more positive about the whole thing xx
Hi mccfluff, I had a minor op last Wed, had the stiches out today (hurray!), honestly you will not feel any pain, the only way to describe what you'll feel is like, you know when you have shoes on and your foot itches so you try to scratch it thru your shoe, its that sort of feeling !! If youve never done that, try it and you'll get an idea of what i mean. I was a bit nervous too, but it was great-and i could watch what he was doin as well, felt weird that i felt nothing. Hope this helps, Good Luck hope it all goes well.
Hey i just recently had a little op and they numb the area with a local anaesthetic. When they inject the anaesthetic inside my lip it was quite painful. But when they'e carry out the procdure you can't feel a thing at all. I had stitches and I couldn't feel a thing, I could just see them weaving in and out with the needle and thread (whatever you call it) lol. though the anaesthetic did make my lip go swollen, which looked a bit scary lol.
