Hi all

Did'nt want to post this on Parenting as it's more to do with my body...

I am 5 mths pregnant but did'nt have it confirmed for the first 2 mths. I had had my hair permed, for a while the curls looked lovely, now they fail to hold and my hair is brittle and horrible! I understand that during pregnancy the hormones react with your hair and body and there are chemical imbalances. With my first child, my son, (this is the 2nd), i looked great and my hair was lovely and silky. This time around i look terrible, my hair is scraggy and i have spots! I'm only 27 but look younger and always had good skin. I am hoping this baby will be a girl, don't find out until mid September, and have heard that when you are carrying a girl your hair and skin are not in good shape. I also have had a more embarrassing problem which is excess body hair! I am especially concerned with my behind as it has become quite alot hairier! Does anyone know if a salon will wax or otherwise remove this unsightly and embarrassing problem?

Thanks

OK, first things first.

As you are finding out, no two pregnancies are the same. The idea that your hair and skin are affected by the sex of your baby is an old wives' tale, so pay no attention. You may well be carrying a girl, but your hair and skin are not a barrmoeter of gender in your baby.

Hormone imbalances which affect different mums in different ways give rise to all sorts of bodily changes, which settle down once the hormones come back to earth. However, if this excess hair bothers you, I can;t see any reason why a salon won't wax it for you. It will make you feel better, and it's obviously no harm to baby, so go and book yourself in. have a manicure and pedicure while you are there - you deserve it!
