amazon.com. the dnds on there are region 1. Why would it evr be illegal to buy american dvds?

I just didnt want people telling me to download them thats all.
The problem with buying them from American websites like Amazon .com is you get stung for import tax so they end up being no cheaper than buying them from UK websites such as Amazon.co.uk.
Playusa.com
I'd also recommend Amazon.com.

As long as you only purchase 1 DVD (or possibly 2 cheap DVDs) at a time, there will be no customs fees to be paid.

VAT isn't payable if the value of the consignment is below 18. Above that figure, you pay 17.5% VAT (plus an extra flat fee of 8). Duty doesn't become payable on DVDs unless the value of the package exceeds 200.

definitely Playusa.com. I have used them before in the past for games for my son before they were released here with no problems
Buenchio is wrong "Duty doesn't become payable on DVDs unless the value of the package exceeds 200. " I was charged on a package of much lower value than 200 and when I challenged this with Customs & Excise was told that there is no minimum value before duty is payable. Before this I had received several packages of DVDs without having to pay any duty - I was just lucky.
Aristotle seems to have had some very strange dealings with HMRC. If the CN22 documentation is correct, HMRC will not charge duty if the amount of such duty is less than 7. Duty on DVDs is charged at 3.5%, hence duty only reaches the 7cut-off point if the value of the DVDs is 200 or above. So, for most DVD purchases, duty won't be charged.

As previously stated, VAT is charged if the value of the items in the package is 18 or higher. There is a flat 8 Royal Mail inspection fee for all packages but this is waived if there's no VAT or duty payable.

So, any DVD import with a value of less than 18 attracts no charges. If the value of the package is, say, 20, there'll be 11.50 to pay. (Zero duty, 3.50 VAT, 8 inspection fee).
