My brother in law who is a gardener has a terrible skin complaint on his hands. he has tried all the creams from the doctor, but to no joy. The skin is itchy and he has calluses on his fingers. Does anyone have any idea what can be the cause or any remedies for this...many thanks

sound like contact dermatitis does he work with anything which could be classed as an irritant
He could get Dermovate from his GP which is a steroid cream- and will dampen it down, but that won't help the cause. He should maybe only use Dove hand wash (non soap) and apply Dermovate when skin is dry, and then perhaps invest in some 100% cotton gardening gloves.
If he really wants to get to the bottom of it he could do a detox. It may eczema which is being aggravated by wheat or dairy intolerance, but I think it is more likely something to do with his job, since it is only affecting his hands.

Sounds like he is allergic to something. If I cut lleylandi and a piece touches my skin, I get a really bad rash which lasts up to a week and if any hits my face, my eyes swell up. I always take anti-histamin tablets.
He could give Diprobase a try..brilliant stuff for all sorts of skin complaints.Another AB user recommended it to me and it is absolutely brilliant .You can buy it over the counter at any chemist. It's an emollient cream that forms a barrier and counteracts infection.
It cured my spud peelers thumbs and various other itchy patches of dry skin and keeps the skin soft and moisturised. You can get a tube or a pump bottle of it.
Hi, I agree the secret is to keep your skin well moisturised. I suffer from terrible eczema on my hands and I wear rubber gloves everytime my hands are going to come into contact with plants/household detergents etc.

Antihistimenes may also help, also dermovate is amazing, it can clear my skin up in no time, however you also need to work on the cause of this problem. I had allergy tests recently and it is amazing what my skin is allergic to.

Buy some nice old plain moisturiser though, no scent in it and use that several times a day to stop your skin drying out, also please see the doctor.
i use a cream called doublebase on contact dermatitis. it works really well and clears the patches up within a few days. i especially would recommend it as it protects like a barrier cream as well as healing the area
