im very interested in such a career, and being 15 am wondering what paths to take, whilst still remaining quite non-specific in my options, to get into such a line of work..help appreciated

your best bet would be to ask this in jobs and education category...you should get more answers that way

you may not be able to get work experience in the relevant offices, as some places do not accept work-ex placements if you're under 18, but you could try contacting your local paper or radio station and ask if you could look around.

Explain why you want to visit, and they will probably arrange a visit for you. and while you're there ask how they got started, etc. At the very least they should be able to give you some advice over the phone or via e-mail.

I'm a journalist: I started by working on my university paper and then did a post-graduate juurnalism course. There are different ways in but one factor remains constant: get as much hands-on experience as possible. Work on your local paper, work for a hospital radio, work for your college paper etc. Get a portfolio of published work together: the more the better.
Don't think you're going to get a job on a national or the BBC - competition for those places are HOT. Set your sights a bit lower and you'll find the way easier.
I have a few personal prejudices when it comes to employing people (I've been an editor for 20 years now): I distrust media studies degrees and I reject anyone whose CV contains a single spelling mistake, but not every editor shares those views.

CVs and application letters however, should be proof-read thoroughly, several times.

thank you very much, ive been considering journalism as a career option for a long while now, although i have been slightly worried abput the whole idea considering that other girls in my year want the same career and seem to be a lot more confident in themselves and what theydo. i'm not shy as such, i just don't feel i could succeed as well as they would in such a job. however, i am determined!
