Right, was sitting in the house last night chatting to a friend on the phone and heard a noise in the kitchen which I ignored and continued on talking but then heard it again and decided to investigate. Set the phone down (friend still on line) and went to kitchen. There was this guy climbing in through the window with a tesco bag on each hand!!!! WTF? When he saw me he scarpered. Am seriously cheesed off, apparently you can't sit in you own house at 7 in the evening with the window open without some weirdo lunatic trying to gain access. Concerning thing is, if I could hear something in the kitchen surely he could hear me on the phone, so what were his motives.
Also if he hadn't have cleared off the only things to hand were the kitchen knives and the kettle so I would have had to choose between defending myself with the knives or making him a cup of tea!!! No points for guessing what the choice would have been. Of course then I would be in a 'Tony Martin' situation.

Sorry to rant this early in the morning but am furious, what is this place coming to??? Grrrrrrr!!!!

thats terrible !
oh my god! what a fright you must have got ?
did you phone the police?
Thank God You're Alright!!!!.... oh my!!! that's really scary....

Did you get a good look at him? for the police? btw....

Recently, we've been having trouble with brats coming and scratching peoples cars, so we've now put a camera up.... bought in B+Q for 100 for 2 cameras and all the bits you need.... night vision ok if you have an outside light.

Highly recommend you invest. It's fantastic catching them on film!!!

Again... glad you survived the experience :-)
I wouldnt be furious, that would have seriously disturbed me, you said nothing about being scared, I wouldnt have been able to sleep in that house. Did you ring police?
I'd be livid too, i think its a sign of the times, people are so well informed by advertising , about what is on offer that they all think they are entitled to material things, some think its should be theirs without working for it.I agree with you totally and i would have hit him with kettle and knives and taken my chances with the law glad nothing bad happened, hope your have a good day
you should have smacked him with the kettle and kniicked his shopping!!
was it an adult or some young scally? hope you phoned the police, he could have been into a few peoples homes and just swiping stuff that was easy to get to.
grrrrr, its kids these days
my little brother got his car smashed in the other day, the police have a good idea who did it but can't do anything about it cos there is no evidence

Wasn't scared at the time, just in a state of shock.

Mind you, didnt sleep too good last night. I phoned the police and they came in about half an hour, had a look round and took away an eyelash that was sitting on the windowsill!!! (probably mine). They didnt seem that bothered although they did say that they thought they knew who he was from my description. So maybe they will catch him..

Strange thing is the more I think about it today the more upset I get, whereas last night I was just really angry(initially)

stevie165 - this guy wasn't a kid he would have been in his 30's and the tesco bags were over his hands as in glove-type-things presumably so as not to leave fingerprints.
Yer I've been in situation where I havent even thought about being scared and fought of the people or had a go and never even though they could have a knife etc. It sounds like the police did something for once though which is good. Its just a shame that you have to resort to keeping your house bolted up and all windows shut.
OMG, Id have been terrified.
Its so worrying to think that these opportunist theives are out and about taking advantage of the hot weather.
Theres always as increase in house burglaries when we are all outside in back garden enjoying the sunshine, leaving windows and doors open to cool our houses down.
I would have grabbed a knife as first thing i think but doubt i could actually use it unless attacked. Im not sure that youd be found guilty if you said you had been preparing tea and had only gone outside to answer the phone quickly, thus still having knife in your hand.
Good god - I would have been petrified!!! Hope you called the police!!
Blimey!...... That would have scared the living day lights out of me, you poor thing it must have shook you up really badly. I hope you phoned the Police, its a sad world that we live in today, I'm 51 and when I lived at home we never used to lock our doors, infact they were always open in the warm weather and didn't feel the threat of intruders of entering our home.

Pity you didn't have a big dog to take a big lump out of his bum as he scarpered!.........

No need to say sorry for your ranting, you have every cause to. I'm relieved you wasn't hurt in any phyical way.

Take care love cat woman X X X :-)
My God, I'd have been absolutely terrified, glad you're ok. I get so angry with people that break in to other peoples house, I got broken in to once and it just galls me that you work hard for your home and its contents and then some scroat walks in and takes your stuff and the security you felt you had in your home. Still at least this guy didn't get anything and you're not hurt. Chin up xx
OMG!! That's so awful, I would've been absolutely petrified and not slept for a week!!......

Glad you called the police, you said they think they know who it is - but are they going to do anything about it???

I got burgled a few years ago, they did catch the person that did it, but as he had a string of others ours was only 'taken into consideration' so didn't really add anything to the case!!

A xXx
yes, that makes good sense, he definately wasn't sneaking in to restock your fridge. i'm sure you would have felt better about it today if you could have got a wack on him, bizzare, bizzare!
Sounds dreadful.

Get security cameras.

Actually the more I think about it I wish I had had the opportunity to whack him, the cheeky b*stard. Of course if I had I would have told the police that he attacked me first if that had been the case.

Also, slept with a hammer beside the bed last night. I just find it disgusting that some wee scroat (as China Doll so aptly described him) is able to make me feel insecure and intimidated even after the event. Next time he wont' be so lucky.
years ago i lived in a shared house and i had a ground floor bedroom, my bed was up against the window and i woke up in the middle of the night to find some bloke climbing through, i not sure who was more pertirfied, me at finding this bloke virtually in my bed or him stuck halfway through a window with a mad woman banging his head against the window screaming my head off, so i know how you feel, i invested in some window locks, so you can open the window so far then lock so it can't be opened any further.
