real hair wigs

does anyone know who I should contact to have my very long hair cut and made into a wig to help someone with going through chemotherapy or alopecia?
I have grown my hair for years but need to have it cut soon (five children, no time!!) and I would like to know its not going into a hairdressers bin!!!!

when i had alopica i went to a wig store in banbury oxfordshire you could try phoning them on 01295750606 im sure they would be glad of your hair.

you could try asking at your GPs office or indeed telephone your local hospital and asking for the occupational therapy dept. They might have a contact number.

I totally understand how you feel. I too have five children and although my very straight hair is only just passed my shoulders, if I want it too look nice and have anything other than a french plait, I have to take an hour to blow dry it under. I have 4 girls as well so when we have somewhere special to go, I have 4 girls and myself to do the hair of: I am considering a crop myself!

hi i think its a great idea that you have seeing as you have been growing your hair . But all you have to do is go on the website www.cancerresearch.co.uk then you find your nearest hairdressing place to you and then book yourself in to an appointment.

My sister did this a few years ago she had very long hair and had it cut and the hairdresser asked her if she could send it to a wigmaker for this reason, so try asking a reputable hairdresser. I should add though that the reason they wanted her hair is because she has never coloured or permed it, mine was equally as long amd I offered it up for the same reason but they wouldn't take it because mine has been coloured.
