I met a girl last weekend and we got on like a house on fire, the question though that is putting doubts in my head is that she said she is 18 nearly 19, whereas i am 23 nearly 24. She said this didnt bother her if it didnt bother me, but Im just worried what other people might think, like her parents for example !!

Is a 5 year gap too big ?

Age is just a number, if you both like each other then go for it! 5 years is nothing really, I know people who have a lot bigger age gaps!
No,thats not a big age gap at all.And she's not a child is she - she's an adult.
Hi Salisbury, i agree with Kate. I know lots of people with bigger age gaps & they don't seem to have a problem.
Me & my boyfriend have a 4 year age gap, i'm 23 & he is 27 & i know it's the opposite way round to you but i would at least give it a try & don't worry what other people think.
my brother is 24 and is currently going out with a 20 years old! we havent met her yet. I think he is working up to it because the last girl he went out with he was with for 8 years!!
Just be grateful that you have met someone you really like as it is pretty hard these days to find anyone!! Good Luck!
no 5yrs is not a big age gap at all. don't worry what other people might think if u like her then go 4 it. at the end of the day if it all works out and ends up a serious relationship no-one will worry about the age gap. although i don't think anyone will b bothered in the first place. good luck xXx
Salisbury, if you get on you get on simple as that,5 years is no big deal, women are more mature than men anyway so go for it,enjoy yourselves and see what happens, most couples have an age difference, I was 4 years older than my first real girlfriend, and I am 3 years older than mrs sparx, good luck and don't worry, Ray
The older you get the less the age gap matters. The difference between 30 and 35 is negligible, but the gap between 18 and 23 can be much greater. The only problems it can really generate is that because so much happens to you between your late teens and mid twenties then you can often find that you're at totally different stages of life to each other.
God, I sound like a doommonger though. If you like each other go for it!
if you are both getting on so well and both happy age dosn't matter why worry good luck enjoy yourselves
Just be sure she is being truthful about her age.

I wasn't when I was 15. :(
And just for now I wouldn't be worrying about meeting her parents. You've only just met her for god's sake. Just enjoy being yourselves and getting to know each other and not take it too seriously. Have fun!
My husband is 3 years younger than I am. When we first met when I was 23 my parents accused me of baby snaaching !! Here we are together almost 40 years later !

If you're right for each other, this kind of age difference doesn't matter because as you both grow older, mature and gain more experience of the world the "inexperience gap" disappears. It's far more important to be compatible in all the important aspects of your life.
Of course not, for example I am 20 and my partner is 26. We also get on like a house on fire and I moved in at the start of the year :)

I wouldn't think many other people would have a problem with it either, if they did they would be extremely closed minded!
She's an adult, you're an adult. I met my hubby when I was 18 and he was 24. We married a year later - that was 27 years ago - we're still married.

Put it this way, if you were 55 and she was 50, it wouldn't make such a difference, would it? So why worry about it now?
I dont think 5 yrs is nothin 10 yrs is different though i am 26 my boyfriend is 36 and i find he is now too tired to do anything and acts like he is really old an im not im atmy prime i think and we dont go out together cos we dont like the same things anymore so can be difficult
