A girl at school has a mole on her face, and I have noticed that as a treatment of some kind, she has had large stitches put in it.
What does this do?

it may be that she has had some of it removed
Or had a biopsy on it, maybe to see whether it's benign or otherwise. Be nice to her. She probably has enough grief about it as it is, never mind worrying about whether she may have something seriously wrong with her.

No, it';s not stitches that show part of it has been removed- a few large stitches with thin cotton have been weaved into the mole itself, as if to break it up. I didn't know if this was some way of dispersing a mole.
