Hi guys 'n gals! I'm off to a wedding reception tonight. I really fancy a good boogie so don't want to wear a skirt but I don't have any smart trousers. So do you think it's okay to wear jeans and a smart top & shoes?

Hi Champagne!

Sounds fine to me! Anyhoo it'll be dark on the dance floor.

Have a great time :o)
Yep! Sounds good! A good pair of jeans and flatties. And perhaps a smart jacket, if it's not too hot? Enjoy!

Thanks Wingnut and JJ. I will take a jacket in with me just to smarten up the look for first impressions. :o)
Nooooooooooo...you can`t wear jeans to a wedding reception!!!!!!.....and I thought you were a laydee...pfft!!!

I've always denied being a laydee, Elvis. But I am a diva on the dancefloor!! Not in a skirt though. ;o)
Ok maybe so...but jeans?...on a hot day like this?...deffo a no no
Of course, jeans sound fine to me, especially with a smart top!

After first impressions no-one would really care anyway , not with the free-flowing alcohol! Alcohol, cheesy music and a good old boogie on the dance floor, sounds like a great night....go enjoy youself!
Sorry champagne I have to agree with elvis - jeans! Way too hot for that!

Personally I wouldn't wear jeans, however its important you feel comfortable, so go with what you want to wear.
Hi champagne,

yes it will be to hot for the jeans, just be comfy and casual, If you were coming to my party,I would say dress optional,so when I have my party knickers and bra is fine, you will look good whatever you wear, cos you is one classsy dame, have a great time, Ray xx
mmm...i dont think i would wear jeans either, not to wedding reception...bit too informal...but i suppose it all depends on the bride and groom and there style and what they think will be acceptable.
My friends brother sent a couple of guests away from his wedding after they turned up in jeans.
White jeans? A bit more dressier anyway.
yep you put your jeans on,its not as if its the day your going to,go on girl and dance the night away and be merry
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I wouldn't wear jeans - even smart designer ones, to a wedding reception.

As it's going to be hot, I'd settle for a dress or skirt with a fancy blouse but turning up in jeans might seem a bit rude when everybody else will probably have done to the trouble of dressing up. Looks as if you couldn't be bothered.
I would wear jeans, Champers ~ as tradey has said, you weren't at the ceremony..so anything goes :o)
its a bit of an insult to the bride & groom , looks like you cant be bothered to dress up.
Asda is open till 10pm tonight , stop and buy a pair of trousers that wont cost the earth and stop all the snide remarks your going to get.
presume you are taking a wedding present ?
Not sure what a wedding present has got to do with it? I think Iz66 was right when they said it depends on the circumstances...no-one can really tell if jeans are appropriate unless you know the actual situation I guess.

Let us know what you did decide to wear...
No way. It`s a wedding reception do, so nearly everyone will be in their gladrags

Hi all. Thanks for all your answers.

I did decide to wear jeans in the end. And yes, I was the only person wearing jeans!! I decided to wear them because Id had a whole week of posh dos and was tired of wearing formal dresses & skirts so wanted to relax and be able to have a boogie. Needless to say I didnt get the opportunity to have a dance. DOH!

What did happen though, was that the groom had a dig at me for ordering a bottle of Champagne on the free bar. The cheeky sod!!

I knew full well it was a free bar, but couldnt find a drink that I wanted to drink, so decided to order a bottle of bubbly and pay for it. I did pay for it too, out of my own pocket. Then he strolls up behind me and says loudly to the best man, I need to sort this free bar out because people are ordering bottles of Champagne!. I turned around and simply said, I paid for this. He tried to talk his way out of it so I said again, I paid for this then walked away. I know it was a dig at me, purely because I was the only person in the whole room drinking Champagne!!
